Christ our Righteousness

The words of this song written by Edwart Mote (1797-1874) touch my heart:

1) My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

Chorus:
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

2) When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

3) His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

4) When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
In Him, my righteousness, alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

May God grant us the grace to put our hope and trust fully in Jesus Christ and His righteousness alone. Our own righteousness is like filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). When we put our faith and trust in Jesus Christ, He imparts His righteousness to us. (Philippians 3:9)

  1. Dankie Pieter,

Eventual Glorification!”
    *1. We are Justified because of Christ’s work on the cross.
    Yes, Christ has done His miraculous wonderous work on the cross, but we have to accept it, make it our own & continue to abide in Christ! Because when we do that, Christ help us in our willingness. “Work out your own salvation with fear & trembling, for it is God who…”(does the good work in you) Why? Because you are willing & not because of any good works of your own, but you have to respond!
    2. Sanctification. Yes, God the Holy Spirit is still going to work in your life, like the potter forms the clay…He’s not finished with you, but will be working & forming your life/character into His likeness…but even here you have to be willing & not kick against the pricks…
    3. Glorification. This is the day when Gods perfect work & plan for each one of us will be completed, just like Christ uttered the words on the cross…”It is finished!”
    So when you accepted Christ as your personal Saviour & Lord, Councellor,etc. the work & perpose of what God is doing wasn’t completed. Yes, Christ’s work on the cross was completed & all our sin & the sin of the world was paid for in full. Past, present & future!
    Does that mean that we can remain in our sin & old life, & can continue in sin? No, never because when we accepted Christ as our Saviour & the Sanctification process of God started in us, how can we then reject such a great salvation again? We can’t because we are Gods children & heirs of His greatness now.
    *Nothing can seperate us now from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus! But can a father loose his children & harm that relationship? Yes, they can. So if that relationship is harmed then we need to go to our Father & reconcile again.
    *Lets never reject such a great salvation by any false doctrine or belief that Christ won’t forgive us if we come to Him in honesty & truth!
    *The devil who is the deceiver & father of lies & accuser of the brethren wants you to believe that & cause you to doubt God & live a defeated & misrable life. Stand on Gods Holy & Infallible Word & keep on trusting & obeying God. He is faithful & just & will not bring any temptation over you which will cause you to doubt or sin. No, thats not His character nor intention, He siply wants you to become a mature Child of God, a Christian, through what He sends on your way.
    He loves you so much & wants you so much to grow & experience what it is to be like Him & be mature in your Christian walk that He send what is specifically neccesary for you personally, in order to reach that goal. When thats completed then it will be your last breath, you’ll then be Glorified! Thats when your work on earth is done & Jesus takes you home to be with Him for all eternity!
    What a God?
    Lets give Him all the glory, praise & honour!
