My dear friend, are you living by law or by faith? Living by law is not only living by the law of Moses, It can also be living by a list of man-made rules or traditions. Living by law is living by any list of dos and don'ts and thinking that you will get to … Continue reading Living by Faith versus Living by Law
Identifying False Prophets
Our Lord Jesus explicitly warned us against false prophets who will lead many people astray in Matthew 24:11 "And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray". These false prophets appear very attractive and yet are extremely destructive. In Matthew 7:13 to 23 we read: “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide … Continue reading Identifying False Prophets
The Deadly Effects of Legalism
I once listened to a sermon on Luke 6. The sermon highlighted four characteristics of legalisms that are apparent from the passage of scripture. Each of these characteristics start with the letter C. CRITICAL: Legalistic people have their set of rules by which they judge everyone else. They cannot encounter or interact with anyone without … Continue reading The Deadly Effects of Legalism
Fear Not
And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord...Luke 2:10-11 Dear Friends, we need not fear. We have a saviour! … Continue reading Fear Not
Jesus Paid It All
I am blessed these days by the words of this song, written by Elvina M. Hall, in 1865. I hear the Savior say,“Thy strength indeed is small;Child of weakness, watch and pray,Find in Me thine all in all.” Refrain:Jesus paid it all,All to Him I owe;Sin had left a crimson stain,He washed it white as … Continue reading Jesus Paid It All
Blessed are the Poor in Spirit
I can only imagine how the Lord Jesus must have been waiting in anticipation for the opportunity to share the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven with His disciples. Here in the sermon on the mount He gets straight to the point with the beatitudes which give us the attitudes that characterise those who will … Continue reading Blessed are the Poor in Spirit
God’s Kindness and Mercy Lead to Repentance
God's Mercy and Kindness Leads to Repentance... You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things… Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing … Continue reading God’s Kindness and Mercy Lead to Repentance
Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
Oh, the love and grace with which God reaches out to us! I am deeply touched as I meditate on the story of Jesus and the Samaritan woman in John chapter 4. Here is a woman who is a gentile and an immoral woman. She is a sinner like all of us. The Lord Jesus … Continue reading Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
Testimony of how I found Peace, Joy and Victory in Christ
In the church where I grew up, I was taught that in order to obtain forgiveness from sin and victory over sin one must confess one’s sin to a counsellor at that church. In the attempt to obtain peace and victory in my life, I confessed my sins faithfully to my counsellors. I also tried … Continue reading Testimony of how I found Peace, Joy and Victory in Christ
Christ our Righteousness
The words of this song written by Edwart Mote (1797-1874) touch my heart: 1) My hope is built on nothing less Than Jesus Christ, my righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, But wholly lean on Jesus’ name. Chorus: On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand, All other … Continue reading Christ our Righteousness
God’s Holiness
Meditating on God's Holiness...
The Bible teaches us that God is holy. That means that God is morally perfect. He is perfect in goodness. He is always righteous and just. He always chooses to do what is right and best. He is excellent in virtue. He is perfect in character. He is flawless. He is worthy of all praise, worship and devotion...

Nothing but the Blood of Jesus
I am touched by the words of this hymn today.

Nothing but the blood of Jesus...

False Religion versus the Gospel (Summary)
For many years I had been subtly deceived by false Christianity. God in His grace, however, allowed me to experience and see the heartache, depression and trauma caused by false religion. As a result, I started realising that something was drastically wrong with the "Chritianity" that I had. I started seeking God and His truth … Continue reading False Religion versus the Gospel (Summary)
The Heartbreak of Rejected Love
There is most probably nothing that causes as much heartache and emotional pain as loving someone with all your heart, who totally ignores and refuses your love. In the old testament we read about the prophet Hosea. God wanted him to feel some of the pain that God feels as a result of people rejecting … Continue reading The Heartbreak of Rejected Love
Hymns that touch my heart
These are some of the hymns that touch my heart. Some of them have been an encouragement to me during very difficult times.
He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater - Annie Johnson Flint (1866-1932)
1) He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,
He sendeth more strength when the labors increase,
To added affliction He addeth His mercy,
To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace...

Peter versus Judas
Peter and Judas are two of the Lord Jesus' disciples who stand out at the time of the Lord Jesus' crucifixion (Mark 14). Both are included in the twelve disciples chosen by Jesus. Both sin against our Lord. Peter denies Jesus. Judas betrays Jesus. Peter obtains mercy and ends up dying for our Lord. Judas on the other hand does not obtain mercy and ends up committing suicide. What are the differences between these two disciples that their ends are so different?

Why does God allow so much Suffering – Part 1
If God is a God of love, why is there so much suffering in this world? This question is asked so often. I have been meditating on this for several years. What follows is my understanding of it.
God is love. Love desires people to bestow one's love upon. God created people in order to live in a loving relationship with them...

The tragedy of self-righteousness
Luke 7:39 Now when the Pharisee who had invited him saw this, he said to himself, "If this man were a prophet, he would have known who and what sort of woman this is who is touching him, for she is a sinner." To me this is one of the saddest verses in the Bible. Here the saviour had come to visit Simon the Pharisee. This was the same Savior who had visited Zacchaeus and Matthew, the tax collectors, at their homes. (Remember how Zacchaeus had stood up and confessed his sin, after which the Lord Jesus said: “Today salvation has come to this house”.)
