God’s Mercy and Kindness Leads to Repentance…
You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge another, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things…
Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, forbearance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness is intended to lead you to repentance?
Romans 2:1, 4 NIV
because judgment without mercy will be shown to anyone who has not been merciful. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
James 2:13 NIV
Sadly we so often judge others and treat those who are rebellious harshly. We tend to try to straighten people by force. Yet the Bible says it is God’s kindness and mercy that leads to repentance.
The rebellious are often in desperate need of acceptance and unconditional love. Reaching out to such people and loving them unconditionally often changes them completely. Yet we often find it so difficult to associate with such people. We tend to be afraid of what other people are going to think of us.
True love, loves, no matter what other people think.
Of course loving someone does not mean giving our approval for their sinful deads. But it does mean being patient with them, while asking and trusting God to change them.
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for loving sinners and associating with despised and rejected people, no matter what other people thought.
May God give us the grace to show mercy and kindness to others just as God bestowed mercy and kindness on us.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.
Matthew 5:7 ESV
